Chom Ong cave is a recently rediscovered natural attraction located about 45 km from Oudomxay town near the Khmu Lu village of Ban Chom Ong Thai. Walking through the village already is an attraction as there are several people producing handicraft products as well as a blacksmith forging the lao machetes which you will see all over the place.

From the village it is a one-hour walk, to the cave up the creek through rice fields and lovely forest with various animals, insects and small birds. The Nam Kaang River flows through the lower areas of the cave system. It enters the system in the North of the 4 km long mountain stretch and rediscovers daylight at the southern end. The exploration tour usually leads you through parts of the dry section in the South. The exploration of Chom Ong Cave takes about four to six hours and is a real adventure as the cave is still in its natural state. Needless to say the tour will bring you in several stunning side passages of which one ends in a 18m drop down to the river passage.

The tour to Chom Ong Cave can be done as a two-day or as a three-day tour and brings you to the southern more easily accessible part of the fossil passage (see picture below). Also see the information flyer.

Level of difficulty and trail condition:
Easy walk buth the drive to the village is quite long (2 1/2hours) and bumpy due to the very bad road condition. This is also the reason for renting a 4x4 vehicle. Still sensitive tourists might get a back- oder headache.

12:00	Picnic at the Chom Ong Cave
14:00	Visit local attractions
13:30	Have dinner with the villagers
2nd Day
8:30	Have breakfast in the village
9:00	Leave from the Village
10:00	Visit bat cave ( Chom Ong )
12:30	Picnic near the cave
13:30	Visit the Water Cave
16:30	Visit the Cave 3
17:30	Come back to home stay at Chom ong village
18:00	Have dinner with the villagers
3rd Day
9:30	Have breakfast in the village
10:00	Leave Chom ong village
12:00	Rest and picnic on the way (at Ang Nam Hin or Dam)
16:00	Arrive at the tourist information in Oudomxay town

If you opt for the two-day tour you will have to be back at the village midafternoon of the 2nd day to leave for Oudomxay.
